Dinosaurs

We went to see the Dinosaur Exhibit at the Zoo last month. There was a preview for Zoo members, so we braved the 99 degree heat to go for free...twice.
The boys were in heaven there. Most of the dinosaurs were motorized, one even spit at you (sprayed water out of it's mouth)! Early on in the exhibit I gave the camera to Hunter and he took pictures of every dinosaur, sign, and poster.
Devan and Hunter took turns riding on Auntie Juliet's scooter and in the stroller. There was also an area where they got to dig up fossils and do a puzzle.

The first time through the exhibit took us over an hour. The second time we sailed through in 20 minutes. Then we decided to keep trucking and we went through the rest of the zoo despite the heat. It actually wasn't too bad and the kids had a ball. We even had a race up the steep hill.
Finally, to get a little break we rode the train. This was in addition to going to a pizza party with a playgroup earlier on in the day. Then afterward we went out to dinner to celebrate Juliet's birthday. It was a great day full of fun and memories.

Hunter's Open House

Hunter's class had a student-led open house last month. Hunter was very careful to lead me through each item on his handout. He showed me wonderful drawings, stories and exercises.

The highlight of the event was finally getting to see his wetlands report. His teacher allowed each child to pick an animal found in the wetlands. Hunter chose the painted turtle. They searched for facts about the animal in books and on the internet and wrote them down in a notebook. Then they got to type in the facts in sentence form into a powerpoint presentation and add pictures to go along with the report. It's all that Hunter has thought and talked about for weeks. He's also made several animal reports on his own at home. He has brought home books from school and taped papers together to make a notebook. He writes a category on each page and fills in the facts that match the category. Then he asks me if he can type it into the computer. He has such a great mind and I'm so proud that he has such a passion for learning.
