The Drive Home

On Sunday morning, just as we were about to head home, a snow storm dumped several inches and threatened to snow us in. We called around to try to find chains, but either the stores didn't have them or they were closed for the day. We hunkered down and waited, fully expecting to have to stay another day. We were frustrated, but Hunter was thrilled and headed outside to play in the snow. It suddenly seemed like heaven had sent a special baptism gift just for him.

By about 2 pm the snow had stopped and it had melted off the road. We checked the weather reports and road conditions. Everything looked clear, so we took off. We did great until we hit a windswept valley in Idaho. The snow was being blown across the road and we had to slow down to a crawl. We made it to Boise and swam in the hotel pool that night.

The next morning we talked to some other travelers and found out that they closed the roads we were traveling on a few hours after we got through. We felt very blessed. As we made our way through Deadman's Pass the roads were clear, but the mountains where blanketed in snow.

As we started to head for home, we got a phone call from Marty & Juliet saying that our little nephew Jullien had been born that morning. What wonderful news! The blessings were just pouring in.

We were hoping to stop at a couple of our favorite places on the way back. A quick stop at the Stonehenge replica showed us that between the cold and the wind, that just wasn't going to happen. So we found a little park that had a train caboose and everyone was thrilled. It was the perfect end to the perfect trip.
